Custom domain setup guide
Host your client portal under your own agency subdomain (e.g., clients.youragency.com or portal.yourbrand.io).
Overview and architecture
When you map a custom domain:
- All client portal URLs route through your subdomain.
- Automated SSL/TLS certificates are provisioned and auto-renewed.
- Clients never see generic third-party URLs.

Step 1: Enter desired domain in MyContentLab
- Go to Settings → White-Label → Custom Domain.
- Enter your full subdomain (e.g.,
portal.youragency.com). - Click Generate DNS Instructions.
Step 2: Add DNS records in your domain provider
Log in to your DNS provider (Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Namecheap, AWS Route53, Google Domains, etc.) and create two records:
| Record type | Name / Host | Target / Destination | TTL |
|---|---|---|---|
CNAME | portal (or chosen subdomain) | custom.mycontentlab.ai | Auto / 300 |
TXT | _mcl-verify.portal | (Unique verification string generated in settings) | Auto / 300 |
NOTE
If using Cloudflare, ensure the CNAME record is set to DNS Only (Grey Cloud) during initial certificate issuance, or configure SSL mode to Full (Strict).
Step 3: Verify DNS and provision SSL
- Return to MyContentLab and click Verify DNS Records.
- Once validated, our edge router provisions a dedicated Let's Encrypt SSL certificate.
- Your custom domain status will switch to Active (Green) within 2 to 5 minutes.
Troubleshooting and FAQs
How long does DNS propagation take?
Most DNS changes propagate globally within 5 to 15 minutes. In rare cases with high TTL settings, propagation can take up to 24 hours.
Can I use an apex or root domain (e.g., youragency.com)?
We recommend using a dedicated subdomain (such as portal., clients., reports., or app.) so that your agency's main marketing website remains unaffected.
